On February 12, 2002 at 1631 Hrs. The St George Fire Department (Baton Rouge, LA) was dispatched to a roll over MVA with confirmed entrapment.
Engine 613 arrived on the scene and were met by Louisiana State Police who advised that the female driver of the Lincoln that was on its side was trapped inside of the passenger compartment.
Initial scene size up revealed a Lincoln town car on its side with one patient trapped in the vehicle.
Ladder 628 was requested by Command to provide additional manpower.
Access was gained to the patient and she was determined to be in stable condition with no life threatening problems.
The vehicle was stabilized in the position found via cribbing and rope attached to the undercarriage of the vehicle.
Due to the stability of the patient, the determination was made to proceed with a slow, methodical extrication to ensure that no further injury occurred.
Hurst cutters were used to cut the A and B post and a sawzall was used to cut the roof from side to side to make a flap that was laid down.
The patient was moved to a spine board and secured under the direction of East Baton Rouge EMS Paramedics.
The Patient was transported to a local hospital in stable condition complaining of chest pain.
The driver of the other car was emotionally upset over the incident but was not injured.
