KS Bravest Battle House Fire

Photos/Story by John Mattox

During one of the worst Ice storms in decades, the Shawnee Kansas Fire Department responded to one of several house fires that was caused either directly or indirectly by the storm.

The owner of this house had rented a generator to power his house while the electricity was off. The owner states that he started smelling an electrical odor and then noticed flames coming from his computer.

As the family left the house they noticed fires in other rooms of the house.

Shawnee firefighters, aided by the Lenexa Fire Department were on the scene within six minutes of the call.

Upon arrival the house was over 50 percent involved.

The fire overwhelmed the available water supply.

Everyone was able to get out of the house without injury but the house was a total loss.
