NY Bravest Battle Fully Involved House Fire

Photos by Barry Gavigan
Story by Peter Alberti

Athens, NY Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched to a fully involved structure fire in Sleepy Hollow Lake just after 7:20PM on Wednesday, January 30, 2002.

Units arrived to find the 2 story home at 3195 Sleepy Hollow Road, Lot# 326 fully involved.

Firefighters first worried about the exposure, before getting control of the blaze.

It took 60 firefighters approximately 45 minutes to get the very intense fire under control, however the house was a complete loss.

The fire is believed to have been started by a toaster oven.

The Athens Fire Department along with the assistance of West-Athens, Catskill and Coxsackie Fire Departments were able to bring the blaze under control.

The residents were not home at the time and no injures were reported.
