Mechanicsburg, PA firefighters were dispatched to a working garage fire in the Borough of Mechanicsburg just after 5:00PM on Friday, January 18, 2002.
Units arrived to find the 2 story home at 615 Robert Street fully involved.
Crews first worried about the side 2 exposure, before getting control of the blaze.
It took 40 firefighters approximately 30 minutes to get of the very intense fire under control, however the house was a complete loss.
The fire is believed to have started when a motorcycle tipped over in the garage & the gas that leaked out came in contact with a lighted kerosene heater.
Mechanicsburg's two fire companies, Citizens Fire & Rescue & the Washington Fire Company, were assisted at the scene by firefighters from The Naval Inventory Control Point, Mechanicsburg, Hampden Township Fire Company, & Lower Allen Township Fire Department. One of the firefighters showed some distress, possibly from smoke inhalation, and was taken to a hospital.
The family lost a pet cat in the fire.
