CT Firefighters Battle Pool House Fire

Photos/Story by Christian P. Frezza

Manchester Fire Rescue EMS, Connecticut, Local 1579 firefighters responded to the report of fire showing from a 1 story block building at 100 Globe Hollow Park on Spring St. at 5:30 pm. monday evening Feb 4, 2002.

E4 was first due and reported fire through the roof of the approx. 35 x 100 1 story pool house that was closed for the winter.

Three engines and two aerials operated to bring the fire under control.

An initial attack line was stretched and an interior attack was initiated before firefighters were ordered out of the building.

The pool house contained changing rooms, bathrooms and a pool chemical storage area containing approximately 1000 lbs of granular calcium hypochloride and other pool chemicals.

A defenssive attack was initiated into the involved portion of the building to prevent extension to the storage area where a reaction could have occurred.

There were no injuries and the fire is still under investigation.
