PA Firefighters Battle Tractor Trailer Fire

Photos/Story by Brian Denham

On Wednesday February 20th at approximately 1400 hrs. the Franklin Fire Company (Sta.4) was dispatched to the 3100 blk of Letterkenny Road in Greene Township for a vehicle fire.

While enroute Franklin County Communications advised units that the vehicle was a tractor trailor hauling hay.

Ambulance 13-8 (Letterkenny Fire Dept.) arrived on scene and reported the trailor was fully involved, a brush fire on bothsides of the road and power lines on fire.

Upon arrival of Deputy Chief 47 (Sta.4) he requested an additional Engine Company and Tanker to the scene.

Crews quickly contained the fire in the field and a front yard of a nearby residence, a front end loader and a back hoe were used to seperate the bales of hay form the trailor so firefighters could start extensive overhaul operations.

A small section of Letterkenny Road was closed for 2 1/2 hrs.

Units on the scene: Eng.43 & 45, Squad 41 (Franklin Fire Co.) Tanker 13 & Amb.13-8 (Letterkenny Fire Dept.) Engine 11-1 (Pleasant Hall Fire Co.)
