MD and PA Bravest Extricate Driver from Tractor Trailer

Photos/Story by Casey Eugene Snoke

There was an accident this morning on I-83 in the area of Dairy Road Bridge.

A bicyclist, Kathy Piper found a tractor-trailer that went over the embankment between the north and south bound lanes. Piper said "that the driver was screaming in pain when she found him" at approximately 0757 hours. Piper stayed with the patient until Fire/EMS rescuers arrived on the scene and freed them from the wreckage.

The tractor trailer driver was traveling north on I-83 at approximately 0400 hours when it went over the 70 foot embankment. It then hit a tree, which turned the rig over and it landed overturned.

Units responded from both Maryland and Pennsylvania. Baltimore County Battalion Chief 11 Larry D'elia was in command and the EMS commander was paramedic Chuck Leonard from Baltimore County Fire Department.

The patient was freed at 0910 hours and then flown to Baltimore shock trauma.
