Fire Strikes Chester, Pennsylvania Abandoned Warehouse

Photos/Story by the Chester Fire Department

CHESTER, Pennsylvania -- On the morning of February 2, just after 11:30 a.m., the Chester Fire Department received a report of a fire at an abandoned warehouse located on E. 6th Street.

First arriving apparatus and Chester 11 found fire and heavy smoke showing from a 3-story one block long warehouse.

The initial interior attack with a 4, 1 3/4" handlines was abandoned due to partial collapse early when conditions deteriorated rapidly. The companies began a "surround and drown" operation with 4 aerial devices in service.

Mutual aid responded to the 2nd alarm from the surrounding Volunteer fire companies of Parkside, Brookhaven, Garden City and Reliance fire companies.

No one was injured during the fire, which took three hours to bring under control. Companies remained on the scene for the rest of the day for overhaul.
