Carver, Massachusetts (5-21-02) -- When Carver firefighters arrived they were confronted with heavy fire and smoke showing from a 2 1/2-story house. The homeowner William Evans IV sustained second-degree burns to his right arm and chest trying to extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters laid 800 feet of four-inch line to draw water from a nearby reservoir.

Fifty Carver firefighters battled the blaze from the outside of the house due to actual structural damage to the house.

It took about one hour for firefighters to bring the fire under control.

Four engines, two rescues, a brushbreaker and a tanker were used at this fire.

Estimated damage to the house is 100,000.
