NJ Utility Truck Burns After Electrical Flash

Story & Photos by
STEPHEN J. BROWN

Southern New Jersey Firefighters responded to an unusual vehicle fire on Thursday, June 13, 2002.

Firefighters arrived to find a power companies line truck on fire from boom to truck.

The crew was working on a 12kV cap bank installation when a flash occurred. The hydraulic line ruptured and caught fire.

The electrical flash traveled down the truck and also ignited the hydraulic oil tank and thus heavily damaged the service truck.

The worker climbed out onto the cross member atop the pole and was rescued by another bucket truck working nearby.

No injures were reported.
