Houston Bravest Battle Three Alarm Building Fire

Story & Photos by
KEN PARADOWSKI

On Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 0200hrs Houston, TX firefighters were called to a fire in an apartment building under construction.

Firefighters arrived quickly to find a 4 story apartment building under construction, with heavy fire showing.

Command quickly called for 2 additional alarms to help combat the fast moving fire.

Because the building was under construction, firefighters had to contend with a large amount of lumber which also was heavily involved with fire.

With command calling for the third alarm, nearly 30 pieces of apparatus responded.

Five ladder pipes were raised to assist in fighting the fire defensively.

Flying embers were a serious concern at the fire because of numerous wooden houses in the nearby neighborhood. Booster trucks were used to patrol for the embers.
