FL Firefighters Respond To Gas Fed Fire

Photos/Story by
MICHAEL GERRY

On July 17, 2002 at 1825 Seminole County's Engine 23 responded to fire outside structure.

Engine 23 on scene and advised they had a natural gas leak on fire caused by a lightning strike.

E23 immediately pulled a preconnect for exposure protection and called for Squad 2 (Seminole County's Special Operations/HazMat Team) and the gas company.

Squad 2 arrived on the scene and tried to locate the service line to the house to avoid shutting down gas service to the entire subdivision.

Locating the gas line was difficult due to fact that a tree had been planted directly on top of the line and the line was approximately 5 feet deep.

Once the gas company arrived on scene, they advised to clamp the 2" dual feed line on both sides of the service line. Lines were clamped, fire went out.
