COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A serious injury crash involving multiple vehicles injured 11 people Friday, August 9, and caused huge traffic delays.
Rescue personnel from The Columbus, OH Division of Fire responded to the incident around 4 p.m. on state Route 104 and Haul Road, between Interstate 71 and High Street, on the city's southside.
Columbus Fire officials stated that the incident involved three vans, two tractor-trailers, one car, and a pick-up truck. All were traveling in the westbound lanes of Route 104 at the time of the crash.
At this time it is not clear what caused the chain reaction crash, but 11 people were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Three adults were taken to Columbus hospitals.
Eight children were taken to Children's Hospital emergency department.
Fuel from one of the big rigs spilled all over the highway and into the nearby Scioto River. The Columbus Fire/Franklin County hazardous materials unit was called to investigate and contain the spill.
The Columbus Fire Division responded all most two dozen vehicles and 60 firefighter/paramedics and support personnel to handle the entire event.
