On Friday, August 23, 2002, at approximately 4:35 a.m. the East Ridge Fire Department responded to Frawley Road at Layfield Road on a house that was fully engulfed with fire.
Under the command of Assistant Chief Mike Flynn and Deputy Chief Ken Gann, three engine companies, one ladder company, three squad companies, and one rescue squad began fighting the fire in a defensive mode.
Commander Williams started fighting the fire by using a deck gun located on top of Engine 1 that flows 1,200 gallons of water per minute which is much faster than using a hose while other crew teams began fighting the fire from the ground, keeping the fire from spreading to a neighboring house.
The firefighters quickly brought the fire under control with no damage to any other property.
At the time of the fire, no one was inside the house and no injuries were reported.
The cause and location of the fire is under investigation.
