Yantic, CT. - 35 Members of the Yantic Vol Fire Company @ 4:48am responded to the report of a structure fire in the location of 19 Otrobando Ave.
First to arrive was Chief Frank Blanchard. Upon arrival, the chief advised a fully involved 1st floor with heavy fire pushing from all windows and doors.
The Chief directed the first engine to the front of the structure.
There was a large amount of fire and very pronounced odor of a petroleum product present on the three vehicles in the yard, including a very suspicious burn pattern from the house to the interstate on ramp.
The Chief ordered an exterior attack from the first engine via the deck gun.
Two handlines were pulled to each side of the building and the second engine in put down approx 700' of 5" LDH to the first engine from a hydrant on Otrobando Ave.
A second alarm was called which brought in the East Great Plain Vol Fire Department, Taftville Vol Fire Department. A Fast-team was called from the Bozrah Vol Fire Dept.
Ladder 55 was utilized also at the front of the structure with its master stream to assist in fire suppression.
The house was a total loss. The tenants weren't home at the time of the fire.
In all, 100 firefighters battled the blaze which was brought under control in approx 90
minutes.
One Yantic firefighter was injured a minor sprain/strain in his back during the operation. He was transported to WW Backus Hospital where he was treated and released that day.
Local and state fire marshal's are currently investigating the fire at this time.
