Fayetteville, PA House Fire Keeps Firefighters Busy

On Tuesday,September 10th just after shift change at the Franklin County 911 Center,HDQ dispatched a reported house fire at 2305 hours. The home was located at 111 East Main Street,Village of Fayetteville,Greene Twp.,Franklin County. Box assignment 7-5 was alerted sending first due CO 7 Fayetteville,Eng. 7-2,Squad 7,Amb. 7-9,Deputy Chief 7 aboard Eng. 7-2 and Chief 7, CO 5 Mont Alto with Eng. 5-1,Eng. 5-2 and Eng-Tanker 5,CO 17 New Franklin with Eng. 17-1,Eng. 17-2 and Truck 17.

The dwelling was only located about 3/4 mile from the Fayetteville station. Upon arrival of Eng. 7-2 and Deputy Chief 7 had a light smoke condition from the outside,which quickly changed to fire blowing out a second floor window,being a bedroom.

Eng. 7-2 laid a 5" supply line going in,with their crew pulling two preconnect handlines. The handline was advanced through the front door and up the stairs, where they were met by the fireroom on the right. The fire was knocked down, heavy smoke conditions still remained on the second floor.

Crews began to ventilation procedures, as Truck 17 arrived on side one to assist. Air 10 Franklin County Cascade unit was dispatched to the per protocol of a working incident. The remaining units dispatched were on the scene and had their assignments from Chief 7,Command 7. Overhaul and salvage operations began with the three departments.

One person from the residence was treated on the scene by Fayetteville EMS for minor smoke inhalation, all others escaped unharmed. No injuries to any firefighters was reported.

There was minor smoke and heat damage done to some other rooms on the second floor of the two story residence. The cause of the fire is unknown but beleived to be accidental.

Engine 43 Sta. 4 Franklin Fire Company of Chambersburg transferred to CO 7 Fayetteville. The units were on the scene for about two hours. Traffic was rerouted from Main Street by firepolice from CO 7.
