A prominent Redding, CA. doctor was seriously injured in a one car crash early Sunday morning, September 15.
Dr. Norman Lykkeberg, 37, was returning home at approximately 4:00 a.m. when he crashed his SUV.
It is believed that the doctor fell asleep on a rural Shasta County roadway.
His vehicle left the pavement, overturned, and struck several trees.
The doctor lay pinned in the wreck for more than three hours until a passerby spotted the crashed vehicle.
Firefighters from Shasta County, CDF and Redding responded to the accident.
It took nearly a half-hour to extricate the doctor.
He was transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding where he works.
He suffered a broken neck and numerous less severe injuries.
It appears that the doctor is paralyzed from the neck down.
