Redding, California Area Firefighters Extricate Doctor from Crash
Prominent Doctor Paralyzed from Accident

Story and Photos by JOHN CARR

A prominent Redding, CA. doctor was seriously injured in a one car crash early Sunday morning, September 15.

Dr. Norman Lykkeberg, 37, was returning home at approximately 4:00 a.m. when he crashed his SUV.

It is believed that the doctor fell asleep on a rural Shasta County roadway.

His vehicle left the pavement, overturned, and struck several trees.

The doctor lay pinned in the wreck for more than three hours until a passerby spotted the crashed vehicle.

Firefighters from Shasta County, CDF and Redding responded to the accident.

It took nearly a half-hour to extricate the doctor.

He was transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding where he works.

He suffered a broken neck and numerous less severe injuries.

It appears that the doctor is paralyzed from the neck down.
