Story by MARK CHOLACH
Photos by BRAD COWAN

At about 0500 Sunday morning on Sept 15, the Penfield Fire Department was dispatched for 3 pumpers, 1 ladder, and 1 rescue.

One pumper/manpower squad from the West Webster Fire District was also dispatched.

Crews were dispatched to a reported deck fire on Split Rail Run in the town of Penfield, New York.

The first units were on scene in about 4 min with heavy fire showing from the #3 side of a large 2 story frame.

All residents were outside and accounted for.

First due engine 375, secured a water supply and a line was advanced to the second floor.

Ladder 371 set up at the 1-2 corner to prepare for a ladder pipe operation if needed.

The attic was fully involved and had self-vented through the roof and through the attic vent on side 1.

Subsequent lines were stretched to the rear and second floor as back up.

The majority of the fire was knocked down in about 20 min with 2 1 3/4" lines.

Overhaul took an additional couple of hours.

All units were back in service by 0830.
