Joppa-Magnolia, Maryland Firefighters Stomp Four-Alarm

Joppa-Magnolia, Co. 8 Firefighters received a call for a fire on September 19, 2002 at 4:20 a.m.

It was initially reported as a woods fire, but actually escalated to a four-alarm building fire.

The structures were abandoned three-story garden style apartments just outside of Edgewood Arsenal (Aberdeen Proving Grounds-Edgewood area).

The location was 6511 Hawthorne Drive with extension to 6513.

Engine 814 (Captain Peterson) called heavy fire and requested the 2nd alarm on arrival.

Hydrants in the area were found not to operate.

The water shuttle had to be utilized and was reported at 4:20am.

Chief 8-1 (Leroy Edmonds) had operational command.

Mutual aid, Abington, Bel-air, Kingsville, Cowenton, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Fallston.

The fire was a total loss.
