9/5/02, 6 a.m.: On September 3, Los Angeles County was alerted to a wildfire at Bouquet Cyn Road/Spunky Cyn Rd, southwest of Leona Valley.
Crews fought in medium to heavy brush, with a steep, inaccessible terrain.
The weather was extremely hot and dry, with erratic winds.
The plan of action centered on structure protection and flanking the fire.
Emphasis was also placed on keeping personnel hydrated.
1284 firefighters were on hand to fight the wildfire including 61 hand crews.
Two firefighters suffered heat-related injuries.
The following were used:
- # of Engines: 89
- # of Helicopters: 10
- # of Fixed-wing Aircraft: 7
- # of Bulldozers: 19
The fire covered 5,100 acres, and was 78% contained.
100 homes/250 people were evacuated.
There are voluntary evacuations for current threat areas.
Four homes, 12 outbuildings, sheds and possibly barns have been confirmed damaged or lost.
Fire agencies involved were:

- California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection,
- County of Los Angeles,
- City of Los Angeles,
- Glendale,
- Pasadena,
- Burbank,
- Monrovia,
- Sierra Madre,
- Other Southland fire departments.
Other agencies involved were:
- California Highway Patrol,
- L.A. Sheriff,
- L.A. County Animal Control,
- Southern California Edison,
- Los Angeles DWP,
- L.A. County Road Department,
- The American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
