Firehouse Focus will include general profiles, special stories, features, personal events and just about any human interest story that may be of interest to the emergency services community.
The First Focus
Since we're just getting into the online world, our first Firehouse Focus profile is of one of the first fire departments to make an impact in the online community, the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department of Prince George's County, Maryland.
In April 1996, Hyattsville was among the first fire departments online. At the time there were just a handful of departments with their own web site, and since then thousands of departments have followed suit making the emergency services one of the largest single groups online. The HVFD has about 60 active volunteers that are supplemented by county career firefighters.

In the past year, the HVFD's web site has been featured in several fire service publications and is visited by more than 1,000 people everyday offering hundreds of pictures, links, news and more.
Besides being an online leader, the HVFD also has many innovative programs from a live-in college student bunkroom to extensive fire prevention programs. They operate two pumpers, a heavy rescue squad/mass casualty and mass transit accident unit, basic life support ambulance and tillered aerial ladder.
