The City of Alexandria Fire Department is conducting a nationwide search to source highly qualified candidates to fill an Assistant Fire Chief position. The Assistant Fire Chief will assist the Fire Chief in all administrative operations of the Fire Department and may direct the activities of the Fire Emergency Services, Emergency Management Services, Fire Prevention and Life Safety Section, or the Administration Sections as assigned. The Assistant Fire Chief will develop and implement policies and procedures governing the activities and operations of the Fire Department. Tasks are performed in accordance with Department regulations and procedures under the general direction of the Fire Chief.
The Assistant Fire Chief may be assigned responsibility for the overall direction of the Fire Department in the absence of the Fire Chief. The Assistant Fire Chief will plan, direct and coordinate the administrative operations of the Department that employs more than 300 professional personnel, to include firefighters, paramedics, fire marshals, fire inspectors and administrative support. A network of nine stations protects nearly 150,000 residents in the 15 square miles comprising the City. Among the Department's specialized teams are the Northern Virginia Regional Hazardous Materials Team, Technical Rescue Team, Marine Operations Team, EMS Bike Team, and the EMS Special Operations Team. The Assistant Fire Chief will establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with co-workers, City Departments, surrounding metropolitan area government agencies and the public.
