The San Jose Fire Department (SJFD) is a full-service metropolitan fire department that provides service to over 1 million residents within the 206 square miles of the nation's tenth largest city. The Department is led by the Fire Chief, one Assistant Fire Chief, three Deputy Chiefs, two civilian Deputy Directors and three Division Chiefs. Its staffing consists of 679 sworn personnel, 46 non-sworn fire Communications Dispatchers and 67 civilian personnel who represent broad ethnic and gender diversity. The SJFD has an annual operating budget of $163 million and responds from 33 fire stations organized across five battalions. Requires a qualifying combination of education and experience such as at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a comparable local government fire department at a rank equivalent to a Battalion Chief (Chief Officer) or higher and a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
