The City of Burbank is seeking Firefighter Recruits for the City’s Firefighter Training Academy. Qualified candidates will graduate from a City sponsored Firefighter recruit academy with demonstrated abilities to respond to alarms and to protect life and property; to participate in fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical training; and station, apparatus, and equipment maintenance; and perform related work as required.

While in the academy, Recruits learn to respond to alarms and assist in fire suppression, including lifesaving and rescue; perform salvage operations; assist in maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment; maintain fire station and grounds; make required fire prevention inspections; participate in required training programs; perform minor fire hydrant maintenance; participate in preparing exhibits and giving demonstrations for fire prevention and public education purposes; respond and assist in medical emergencies; and drive on City business.

Employees in this classification, who are required by applicable laws and regulations to have respiratory protection, shall comply with the American National Standards Institute’s requirements on Practices for Respiratory Protection. Employees in this miscellaneous, non-safety, classification will not participate in “live fire” situations or responses except under controlled, training exercises.
