  • Fire Claims Six Buildings in Mississippi

    JACKSON, Miss. -- A fire on historic Farish Street burned six buildings, including four row houses, Jackson officials said. The fire started about 5:45 a.m. Friday near Bloom and Boe streets, firefighters said. While the row houses were burning on Farish Street, another vacant home was burning at the same time nearby, fire officials said. One family evacuated their Farish Street home, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.

  • Miss. Firefighter Stricken While Clearing Debris

    A Mississippi firefighter who suffered a fatal heart attack while clearing storm debris last week has died.  Charles Foster, 59, was an 11-year member of Barton Volunteer Fire Dept. in Olive Branch. On Tuesday, he and others were clearing debris when he collapsed. Fellow firefighters started CPR. He was on life support, and died Saturday, according to the department's Facebook page. Foster held a number of positions during his tenure including lieutenant and captain.
