    LA VISTA, Neb. -- Two people were killed when the SUV they were in slammed into a La Vista home early Wednesday morning. Emergency crews were called to Park View Boulevard and Lillian Avenue about 1 a.m. Police said a man and a woman in a Jeep were speeding down Lillian Avenue, ran a stop sign, jumped curb and hit the vacant house.

    OMAHA, Neb. -- Emergency crews spent Friday afternoon working to rescue a man trapped in an earthen trench near 192nd and Briggs streets. The call came in just before 1 p.m. Friday.   • Neb. Firefighters Fall Through Floor at House Fire

    OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha firefighters responded to a vacant house fire at 4601 Florence Boulevard just before 7 a.m. Sunday. KETV NewsWatch 7's Alex Hoffman was on scene. She said a fire official told her that two firefighters fell through the floor of the burning home. Another firefighter jumped out of a second floor window when the conditions worsened. Omaha police said the firefighter was treating a woman near 47th Avenue and Lafayette Avenue after receiving a domestic violence call at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday.   • Tree Limb Gives Neb. Fire Captin Close Call

    A Lincoln firefighter had a close call Thursday night during a thunderstorm. Captain Guy Pinkman was aboard Engine 8 when a 16-foot tree limb slammed through the passenger-side windshield, narrowly missing him, according to The Journal Star. The crew was responding to a report of a downed power line just after 9 p.m. "It sounded like a bomb went off," he told the newspaper. The limb hit him across the chin and just missed the driver. A third firefighter was unharmed.

    OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha firefighters rescued a woman and a child found outside a burning apartment early Friday morning. Crews found flames coming from a second-floor window near Park and Dewey avenues around 1:15 a.m. The woman and child were found in a back stairwell. Residents of the building were evacuated while firefighters did their job. The person who lives in the apartment where the fire started was not home at the time. No one was injured in the blaze.


  • Neb. Crew Help Lifeguard Impaled by Pool Ladder

    BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Authorities said a step from a ladder snapped when a 16-year-old lifeguard tried to get out of a pool. On Wednesday afternoon, Bellevue firefighters were called to Cascio Pool, where they found the lifeguard in the water with the ladder still attached to his foot. The rescue crew was tasked with removing the ladder and the lifeguard together from the water.
