April 30, 2019
Chicopee Fire Chief Daniel Stamborski is a second-generation firefighter with more than two decades of service. He takes over for Chief Dean Desmarais, who retired in March.

CHICOPEE, MAA 22-year veteran of the city’s fire department was sworn in as fire chief on Monday while dozens of firefighters watched.

Daniel Stamborski was named fire chief by Mayor Richard J. Kos. He replaces Fire Chief Dean Desmarais who retired in March, officials said.

Stamborski was named temporary fire chief at the end of March, about two weeks after Desmarais retired. Kos recently made that appointment permanent.

Stamborski became a firefighter in 1997, was promoted to lieutenant in 2007 and captain in 2010. He is a second-generation firefighter and a lifelong city resident, according to a press release from the mayor’s office.

Stamborski also volunteers with the American Cancer Society and the Muscular Dystrophy Organization.
