Mass. Firefighter Dies After Prank Call
Firehouse.Com News
A third-generation Revere, Mass. firefighter died early Tuesday from an
apparant heart attack after responding to what turned out to be a prank call.
Theodore Ferrante, 43, suffered chest pains after an alarm
bells call late Monday, officials said. He was taken to an area
hospital where he died early Tuesday morning.
Earlier this week, Ferrante's father-in-law
passed away, Deputy Fire Chief George Tagliert said.
Ferrante's father, a Deputy Fire Chief, also died in the line of
duty from a heart attack in 1979. His grandfather served in the
Department for four decades and two brothers are currently on the force in
the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain.
"We're very much a family fire department," Tagliert said, adding
that there are many families with multiple family members who serve or have
served in Revere.
Ferrante was in good health and had no prior history of heart trouble,
a fire department statement said.
Ferrante leaves behind his mother, a wife and three children -- a 16-year-old son
and two daughters ages 11 and 12, Tagliert said.
Funeral services
will be on Thursday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church on Revere Street
in Revere. Wake will be Buorfiglio Funeral Home, also on Revere Street,
on Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m.
Staging for fire service personnel attending the services will begin at 9 a.m. on
Thursday behind the church. Full dress uniform is preferred.
Further information will be posted when available.
The Revere Fire Department is staffed by 103 career personnel staffing
four stations on the eastern border of Boston. The Department suffered six
line of duty deaths in it's 114 year history, including Ferrante and his
father.
Ferrante was
assigned to Ladder 1. He received several commendations over his nearly 20 years of
service to the department.
The Department was among those who helped cover the city of Worcester during
the recent tragedy there that claimed the lives
of six firefighters.
