Firefighter Paul Husband, a four-year veteran of the Mobile, Alabama Fire-Rescue Department, died Wednesday when he fell under the wheels of a fire truck.
Husband, 33, was stationed with the M.S. Tapia fire station. The crew of Ladder Truck 5 was leaving the station at approximately 6:12 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, dispatched to an accident with injuries and a possible trapped victim.
Husband attempted to board the cab, slipped and fell under the wheels of the truck.
He was transported to Providence Hospital by Mobile Fire-Rescue Unit 18 and pronounced dead. The accident is under investigation by the Mobile Police Department and the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department.
According to department PIO R. Steve Huffman, Husband graduated from the fire department's academy in October 1995. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was in the Marine Corps Reserve.
Husband leaves behind a wife and nine-year-old son, Paul Jr.
The last LODD in the Mobile department was in 1971 when three were recorded.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 2 with a wake from 9 to 10 a.m. and
memorial service at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul AME Church, 1255 Montrose Street in Mobile.
