NIOSH Releases Series of New Reports on Firefighter Fatalities

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health's Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program
has released more than a dozen new reports on firefighter fatalities.
Included among the 14 reports on 15 fatalities, nine were related to heart attacks or stroke, while four were the result of a vehicle accident. Two of the fatalities were the result of structural firefighting -- a battalion chief who ran out of air after becoming
disoriented and a firefighter who died after becoming caught in a thermal heat column.
