Two of the most seriously injured survivors from Sunday's blast
remained at NYC hospitals Tuesday while fellow firefighters
circulated information about the funeral plans for the three dead.
Joseph Vosilla, 41, remains in critical condition at Elmhurst
Hospital Center after getting buried in the same wall collapse that
killed firefighters Harry Ford and John Downing.
Vosilla, a 10-year veteran of the department, is a member of Ladder
Co. 116 and lives in Astoria, Queens, according to FDNY.
Fire Lt. Brendan Manning is in stable condition at the Cornell Burn
Center in Manhattan.
Manning, 47, is a member of Battalion 49 and is a 19-year veteran of
the department. He is a Bronx resident and is married with children,
the department said.
On Monday the two received visits from IAFF General President Harold
Schaitberger.
Schaitberger met with Vosilla's family at Elmhurst and with Manning
and several other firefighters at the burn center, said IAFF
spokesman George Burke.
The general president also visited local union officials and stopped
at Rescue 4, where fallen firefighters Harry Ford and Brian Fahey
worked.
Schaitberger will be will be attending all three firefighters'
funerals, which are expected to see a massive turn out.
An official at the local NYC fire union said their office was flooded
with calls Tuesday from around the country.
"Just the New York firefighters alone, we're talking many thousands,"
Burke said. "Besides all the firefighters that will come in from out
of town."
