FDNY Bravest Collapses at Station, Passes Away

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Fire Commissioner Thomas Von Essen today announced the death of Firefighter Gregg J. McLoughlin, age 39, of Engine Company 302 in Queens.

McLoughlin, a 15-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department suffered cardiac arrest this morning at his firehouse located at 143-15 Rockaway Boulevard in Queens.

Firefighter McLoughlin was appointed to the Department on March 15, 1986, shortly after receiving his B.S. Degree from SUNY Albany. After graduating from the Department’s training academy he was assigned to Ladder 16 in Manhattan. His brother Robert McLoughlin is also a New York City Firefighter assigned to the 13th Division.

Firefighter Gregg J. McLoughlin was a resident of Massapequa, Long Island. A dedicated husband and father he is survived by his wife, Margaret and their daughters, Jacqueline (13), Sydney (11), and their son Ryan (9). He is the 773rd member of the Department to die in the line of duty in the Department’ s 140-year history.
