Prince George's County Fire Department
Bowie, MD - Clarence Kreitzer died suddenly on Monday, September 24, 2001. He had just returned to the fire station after working at the site of that evening's tornado on the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park. Mr. Kreitzer provided specialized lighting services, which allowed search and rescue efforts to continue after nightfall.
While enroute to his home, he collapsed for an unknown reason blocks from the fire station. A citizen ran to the station to inform them that a person needed their help just down the street. Sadly when personnel arrived they found one of their own members unconscious. Mr. Kreitzer was treated and transported to Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, MD, where he died.
Clarence Kreitzer was born on March 8, 1923. He had been an active member of the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department since April 1937. Over the years, he served the organization in the offices of Rescue Squad Chief, Vice President, Trustee, Lieutenant, and Engineer. During his 64 years of service Mr. Kreitzer received several awards for outstanding service to the community. He is survived by a daughter and three grandchildren.
