PENN HILLS, Pa. -- A volunteer firefighter died a short time after being found unresponsive in the seat of one of his company's trucks, WTAE's Shiba Russell reported Wednesday.
Joseph Kraft, 33, of Universal Volunteer Fire Department in Penn Hills, was pronounced dead around 12:30 a.m. at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. An autopsy is pending, but officials told Russell that Kraft appeared to have suffered cardiac arrest.
Kraft was trying to respond to a call of a house being struck by lightning on Bryant Drive, but he never made it out of the fire hall's parking lot. A fellow firefighter found him after returning from the call.
Firefighters did not comment on the death Wednesday. A message that said "In Loving Memory Of Our Fallen Firefighter" was posted on the fire hall's front sign.
