New London firefighter M.V. Hudson died Saturday after he was injured in a tanker wreck on Feb. 28.

A volunteer firefighter in East Texas has died 10 days after sustaining injuries in a tanker wreck while responding to a grass fire.

According to KETK, New London firefighter M.V. Hudson, 86, died Saturday morning after being critically injured when the water tanker he was riding in flipped while crews were responding to the Feb. 28 blaze in Rusk County. The exact cause of death is not yet known.

Hudson, who served as a volunteer firefighter for 45 years, was trapped and then extricated from the apparatus along with two other firefighters, and all three were then rushed to a local hospital.

The two other firefighters were treated and released, but Hudson was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with several broken ribs and bumps and bruises. According to officials, there was a concern at the time that he might contract pneumonia, but it's unclear if that was the case.

"It was an honor for all us to have served with him," the New London Volunteer Fire Department said. "He will always be remembered and greatly missed."
