Two PA Firefighters Killed in Warehouse Collapse

Ivan Flanscha and Zachary Anthony were killed when a wall collapsed after a blaze at a former Piano warehouse.

Two York City firefighters were killed when a wall collapsed Thursdsay following a warehouse fire.

Ivan Flanscha, 50, and Zachary Anthony, 29, were pronounced dead at York Hospital Thursday.

"This is the worst day in my career, this is the worst day for the York City Fire Department," Fire Chief David Michaels told the York Dispatch. "We are totally overwhelmed. We have received tons of support."

Flanscha was part of a crew dousing hot spots Thursday afternoon, a day after a three-alarm fire ripped through the former Weaver Organ and Piano building.

The collapse of the multi-story building trapped several firefighters and the regional technical rescue team was called to help rescue the firefighters.

Fred DeSantis, president of the York Professional Firefighters Association told the newspaper that two firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries. 

In the 2004, Flanscha was named the York City Department of Fire/Rescue Services firefighter of the year. He also appeared in a commercial for Wahl Razors.
