AR Firefighter Dies after Heart Attack

Michael Watkins, a driver and engineer with the Northeast Lakeside Fire Department, was responding to a brush fire when he had the medical emergency last week.

An Arkansas firefighter died after suffering a heart attack while responding to a call last week, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Michael Watkins, a driver and engineer for the Northeast Lakeside Fire Department in Mountain Home, was heading to a brush fire at around 2:45 p.m. April 21 when he had the heart attack, a post on the U.S. Fire Administration's website stated. He was taken to the hospital and died days later on April 24.

A celebration of life will be held for Watkins, 75, at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at First United Methodist Church Mountain Home, 605 W. Sixth St., Mountain Home, an online update on the Facebook page of the Northeast Lakeside Fire Department stated.
