Houston Firefighter Collapses and Dies at Station

Firefighter Kenneth Stavinoha, 36, was performing his regular duties when he suffered a medical emergency and died at Station 27 on Saturday night.

A Houston firefighter collapsed at Station 27 while performing his duties and died after suffering a medical emergency at about 6 p.m. Saturday night. 

According to the Houston Chronicle, Kenneth Stavinoha, 36, had served with the Houston Fire Department since January 2018. The cause of his death is pending an autopsy by a medical examiner.

Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña said in a statement that Stavinoha was “performing his assigned station duties when he experienced a medical emergency and did not survive. Please keep him and his family in your prayers,” the newspaper reported.

Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association President Marty Lancton told the Chronicle that Stavinoha is survived by his wife, Jessica.

Mayor Sylvester Turner told the newspaper the city is saddened to learn of the firefighter’s death.

“We are grateful for Stavinoha’s service, unwavering courage as a first responder and his dedication to protecting citizens since joining HFD in January 2018. I offer my prayers and condolences,” he said. “May the memory of Stavinoha serve as a blessing to all who loved him and to those who worked closely with him in the Houston Fire Department.”
