A firefighter from upstate New York died over the weekend after falling ill during training.
The Homer Fire Department, which is located south of Syracuse in Cortland County, announced in a social media post that firefighter Robert Bush died Saturday after falling ill during training.
Homer Fire Chief Mahlon Irish Jr. said in a statement that Bush fell ill and medical assistance was immediately begun by his colleagues before he was transported to a nearby hospital. Revival efforts continued at the hospital but were unsuccessful.
"I cannot express how proud I am of our members who initiated treatment," the chief wrote. "This is the worst case scenario in my mind when we have to render aid to one of our own.
