SEARCH AT 'GROUND ZERO'

The Search for missing firefighters and civlians at Ground Zero continues for the past four months, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A photographic review depicts the damage sustained by the surrounding buildings as well as the twin 110-story towers and a 47-story building nearby which collapsed. Firefighters had to work in voids, climb over heavy steel and work amid smoke, dust and debris, in their relentless search for the victims.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS

Exclusive interviews, descriptions and accounts with firefighters, front-line officers and chiefs working on the scene of the World Trade Center before, during and after the collapse. Firehouse talks exclusively with many firefighters who were trapped, narrowly escaped or came within inches of death or serious injury.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Firehouse takes a look at which specialized tools were extremely helpful during the initial stages of the rescue and recovery efforts. Because no fire department had ever had to operate in such conditions and deal with such a massive amounts of heavy equipment manned by steel workers was necessary. In a typical building collapse, lifting or breaking of concrete is required. At this catastrophic incident there wasn't any concrete left.

DAMAGED AND DESTROYED APPARATUS

In the collapse of the Twin Towers, the FDNY lost almost 100 pieces of apparatus: engines, ladders, rescuers, special units and sedans. Replacement of damaged equipment and the apparatus fleet have been on-going since September 11.

THE FDNY

An in-depth look at the Fire Department of New York. The number of companies, procedures and specific information about the make up of the nation's largest fire department.
