Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter Air-11 makes a water drop to keep flames from jumping along Templin Highway as other county firefighters start a backfire in the canyon. The fire occurred on Aug. 26, 1996, the first day of the seven-day Castaic fire in California. The fire destroyed 22,500 acres. At least 2,200 firefighters manning 171 engines battled the blaze.
