A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter operates at a wildland fire that burned about 2,000 acres in the Castaic area of the county on Aug. 27, 2001. A second alarm was requested before the arrival of the first units. The fire burned a vacant home early in the fire. Nearly 1,000 firefighters battled the blaze in near-100-degree weather. Strike teams from Burbank, Los Angeles and as far away as San Diego responded. Several air tankers were also utilized.
