A car fire on Interstate 5 north of Castaic spread into nearby brush on September 14, 2000. It took companies from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Angeles National Forest Service, aided by helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, nearly all day to contain the blaze, which was being pushed by moderate winds to the west and northwest. The west flank was stopped at the spot shown in the photo by air support and diminishing winds. The fire burned 400 to 500 acres.
