A FEMA Urban Search and Rescue team from Florida brings rescued victims to a staging area by boat. These teams, along with helicopters, rescued thousands of people. New Orleans firefighters, using their personal boats, worked for eight days and rescued thousands of civilians.
Dedication
This month’s Firehouse® is dedicated to Captain Richard McCurley, 33, of the New Orleans Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, December 2005; and to Firefighter Christopher James Roy, 25, of Calera, AL, Fire and Rescue; and Firefighter/EMT Robert Timothy Staepel, 41, of the Navy Region Mid-Atlantic/Philadelphia Federal Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, November 2005.
