An early-morning two-alarm fire ripped through two floors of a four-story occupied multiple dwelling. The fire occurred in the confines of the 18th Battalion in the Bronx, NY, on May 16, 2003.

Dedication

This month's Firehouse® is dedicated to Firefighter/EMT Randy G. Utley, 30, of the Grayson, KY, Volunteer Fire Department; Firefighter/Fuels Management Supervisor Rick Lupe, 43, of the Fort Apache Agency, U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Whiteriver, AZ; and Assistant Chief/EMT/SAR Coordinator Ralph Dawdy, 47, of Animas, NM, Volunteer Fire and Rescue, who died in the line of duty, June 2003; and to Assistant Chief Doug Thomas, 41, of the Kent Island, MD, Volunteer Fire Department; and Firefighter Jeff Allen, 24, and Firefighter Shane Heath, 22, of the U.S. Forest Service, Salmon-Challis National Forest, ID, Upper Columbia Salmon Clearwater District, Bureau of land Management, who died in the line of duty, July 2003.
