An air tanker attacks a 2,000-acre brushfire that burned in the area of Agua Dulce, CA, on July 24. The air tanker flew out of Fox Field in Palmdale. Firefighters from Los Angeles, Los Angeles County and the Angeles National Forest were involved fighting the fire. No structures were lost.

Dedication

This month's Firehouse® is dedicated to Lieutenant Timothy A. DiOrio, 36, of the Maine Fire Company, Coal Township, PA, Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, November 2002; and to Fire Police Captain Woodrow Pinkerton, 63, of Union Fire Company, Station 251, Medford, NJ, Division of Fire; Firefighter and President Carl J. Mack, 68, of the New Chester Fire Department in Grand Marsh, WI; Firefighter Bruce F. Spaulding, 49, of the Bourbonnais, IL, Fire Protection District, who died in the line of duty, April 2003; and to Firefighter/Fire Police Harding Wentzell, 81, of the Mexico, ME, Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, May 2003.

  • Dr. David Prezant, FDNY deputy chief medical officer, examines ways in which World Trade Center exposure interacts with the ability to improve personal protective equipment and medical monitoring for firefighters who operated at ground zero.

  • After 9/11, the FDNY Counseling Unit recruited senior members of the department to provide information and educate firefighters about post-traumatic stress disorder.
