MIDDLETOWN, Ohio --

A Middletown man was taken to Miami Valley Hospital after he was run over by his own vehicle at a car wash.

The incident happened at the Shell gas station at 2411 North Verity in Middletown. Officers said when they arrived on scene David Bare, 53, was pinned underneath his full-size van.

Police said they are not sure what happened, but they think Bare may have gotten out of the vehicle to check something when the car wash pulley system rolled the van over him. Firefighters had to use inflated air bags to lift the vehicle off of the victim.

Middletown Police Sgt. John Newlin talks about how difficult the rescue was, "Part of that was because where his body was underneath the car, his leg was tangled in the steering apparatus."

Bare was taken to Atrium Medical Center and then flown to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight. At this time, he is listed in serious condition.
