Calif. Medical Product Co. Burns, $1.2M Damages

SAN DIEGO -- A fire at a business in Mira Mesa early Sunday morning caused more than $1 million in damage, according to authorities. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the fire was reported at about 6:30 a.m. at a medical product sterilization company in the 9000 block of Activity Road. A SDFRD dispatcher told 10News' media partner The San Diego Union-Tribune that there was a fire inside a medical sterilization device. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire by 7:31 a.m.

A fire at a business in Mira Mesa early Sunday morning caused more than $1 million in damage, according to authorities.

According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the fire was reported at about 6:30 a.m. at a medical product sterilization company in the 9000 block of Activity Road.

A SDFRD dispatcher told 10News' media partner The San Diego Union-Tribune that there was a fire inside a medical sterilization device. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire by 7:31 a.m.

Haz mat crews were called to the scene because the company uses radioactive materials, a dispatcher told the Union-Tribune.

People who were inside the building at the time of the fire were evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Total damage was estimated at $1.2 million. According to the SDFRD, the fire was caused by equipment failure.
