Detroit firefighters who rescued a young girl from a fire last week who later died served as the pall bearers at her funeral Wednesday, according to The Detroit News.

Around 200 people gathered to remember 3-year-old Ivory Ivey at the Peace Funeral Home on East Seven Mile.

Ivory died from smoke inhalation on Sept. 13 following a fire set by her 4-year-old sister who was playing with a lighter.

She was laid to rest at Gethsemane Cemetery near Detroit City Airport.

Following the funeral, her family expressed their outrage at the city, saying more have could have been done to prevent the girl's death.

The first fire truck on the scene -- a smaller piece of apparatus that was used to transport firefighters because their engine was out for repairs -- was unable to pump water

Firefighters were able to pull her body from burning home, but she was pronounced dead at a local hospital the next day.

"All I know is that every one of these guys standing up here would've risked their life to save her," Lt. Douglas Henry, who also is Ivory's great-great uncle, told the newspaper. "They did not fail; who failed us was the city.

"I'm mad. I don't care if I get suspended or whatever, but I am mad."
