DETROIT --

Detroit firefighters faced a large fire Friday night at Cathedral Street and the Southfield Freeway service drive on the city's west side.

The fire engulfed the vacant apartment building.

Firefighters rushed up ladders to attack the flames from above while a large plume of smoke billowed into the evening sky.

There were no reports of injuries.

The fight against the fire was hindered when a fire truck broke down on the way to the fire. Firefighters also said the water pressure was low at the nearby fire hydrants.

Witnesses told Local 4 young boys were seen running from the building shortly before it went up in flames.

The building was an abandoned apartment complex of about 100 units.
